Between 2021 and 2023, Trineria has been building a quality management system that complies with the new ISO 9001:2015 standard. As of this writing, the system is fully updated and implemented. Continuous development is at the heart of any quality management system, and we constantly strive to improve our processes. Our goal is to ensure the quality of our output now and in the future.
The certification process began in the spring of 2021 when the company leadership took part in a training programme that introduced the ISO 9001 requirements. The practical course programme laid out the purposes, principles, requirements, documentation, and implementation of the standard.
Trineria’s CEO Leif Setälä describes the beginnings of the internal project: “We started working on this in earnest in late 2021. We set off by looking at our basic work structure and by creating guides and other documentation. At the same time, we developed our own processes. We created, iterated, and documented everything. And then, in our internal auditing, we found more areas to improve.”
Along the way we discovered how beneficial it is to stop and think things through properly. However, thinking alone is not enough. You have to follow through on the planning as well. Company leadership needs to be able to see the company’s internal workings and well as how the company’s output affects the outside world. Process models have to work on both paper and in practice.
External insights are important. Any company can become blind to its own processes, and this can lead to missed improvement opportunities and shortcomings. It is essential for a growing company to be forward-thinking when developing its processes to avoid rushed, late-hour revisions.
The effects of process improvements should be known to all relevant parties, and they should be carried through to their completion. If ideas do not manifest into practice, the end result will be nothing but wasted time. In external auditing, an outside party observes the processes and verifies that they are fully thought out and implemented as planned.
When building a quality management system, a company will inevitably have to discuss and dissect its processes and ways of working in order for everyone to be on the same page and for everyone to have the same information. This helps with innovation and commitment. A quality management system brings clarity to the work and ensures consistency in the company’s products and services.
According to CEO Setälä, Trineria now possesses a realistic picture of their current situation with all the essential factors fully thought out. While the resulting consistency in quality benefits our clients, we will not rest on our laurels as our business is ever-evolving.
